Talking with Your Spirit Guides

Are Your Spirit Guides Trying to Get Your Attention?

Many of us believe we are not walking through life alone.

We have people who love us, memories that stay with us, inner wisdom that rises when we need it most — and, for many of us, spiritual guides who offer comfort, insight, protection, and direction along the way.

I have been aware of my guides since I was very young. Over the years, I’ve learned that guidance doesn’t always come in the way we expect. It isn’t always loud or dramatic. And it doesn’t always arrive as a clear voice telling us exactly what to do.

Sometimes guidance feels like a quiet knowing. Sometimes it comes through a dream, a sign, a feeling, a chill, a repeated message, or a sense that someone loving is near.

Spirit guides may be loved ones who have crossed over, spiritual teachers, protectors, helpers, angels, ancestors, or beings from another realm whose purpose is to support your soul’s journey.

However you understand them, one thing I know is this: Your guides often begin communicating with you long before you realize it.

3 Ways Your Spirit Guides May Be Speaking to You

1. A sudden knowing that feels different from ordinary thought.

One of the most common ways guidance comes through is as a quiet but clear inner knowing. You may suddenly feel that you should call someone. You may get a strong sense to wait, pause, move forward, or pay attention. You may know something without knowing how you know.

This kind of guidance often feels calm, steady, and loving. It may be strong, but it usually does not feel frantic or fear-based. It feels like something deeper within you is being gently guided.

2. Signs, symbols, and repeated messages.

Your guides may also speak through signs. A song plays at just the right moment. A number keeps appearing. You see the same animal, symbol, phrase, feather, coin, or name again and again. Someone says something that answers a question you had only asked silently.

When a loved one has crossed over, these signs can feel especially personal. You may notice a scent, a song, a favorite bird, a meaningful date, or something that reminds you of them in a way that feels too timely to ignore.

Not every little thing is a sign, and we don’t need to force meaning into everything. But when something repeats and brings comfort, confirmation, or clarity, it may be worth paying attention.

3. Dreams, body sensations, and energy shifts.

Guidance often comes when your mind is quiet — during sleep, meditation, prayer, relaxation, or those soft moments between waking and sleeping. You may have a vivid dream that feels different from an ordinary dream. You may wake up with a message, a feeling, or the sense that you were visited.

Guidance may also come through the body. You may feel chills, warmth, tingling, pressure around the heart, or a sudden sense of calm. Some people feel the presence of a guide nearby before they ever understand who or what they are sensing. Over time, you may begin to recognize your own spiritual language — the way your guides tend to reach you.

Building a Relationship With Your Guides

Your guides are not here to frighten you or overwhelm you. Loving guidance is supportive. It may challenge you, but it will not shame you. It may get your attention, but it will not make you feel powerless.

You can begin building a relationship with your guides by simply speaking to them.

You might say: “I welcome loving guidance that serves my highest good. Please help me recognize the signs, feelings, and messages meant for me.”

Then stay open. The answer may come as a feeling or a sign. It also may come through a dream, another person, a knowing you cannot fully explain, but cannot easily dismiss. The more you listen, the more familiar their presence can become.

Love,

Donna
